Super Sunday sees high priced pointers deliver

It was another exceptional day for Irish Pointers under rules this afternoon with some very exciting performances.

NAVAN

12:00 Maiden Hurdle
Battleoverdoyen won the Maiden Hurdle in most impressive fashion for Gordon Elliott and Gigginstown House Stud under Jack Kennedy. Such was the quality of the performance that he has been shortlisted for most of the leading Novice Hurdles this season as he has now followed up his point to point and bumper with a Hurdle success and remains unbeaten. He won a Loughanmore four year old maiden for Jerry Cosgrave and Mark O’Hare in the colours of Michael Lynch. The runner up on that occasion was Court Liability for Colin Bowe who has won all of his four subsequent starts for Harry Whittington.
Battleoverdoyen cost 235,000 at the Tattersalls Cheltenham April Sale in 2017.

1:00 Grade B Handicap Hurdle
Salty Boy
won this contest in a tight finish seeing off Golden Jewel by half a length. Connections owned this fellow when he won a Ballinaboola maiden back in February and having failed to meet his reserve of 70,000 in the February Sale at Cheltenham he was retained by owners who have now enjoyed two wins and three placings already this year from this talented son of Stowaway. Mags Mullins trains this gelding whom she also produced to win his point to point.

2:05 Novice Chase
He’s No Molly won here for Noel Meade and Sean Flanagan in the colours of Mrs Patricia Hunt. The son of Beneficial has been second on his debut at Lisronagh for James Doyle in April 2017. Meade secured him for 75,000 at the Goffs Doncaster May Sale following that run and he has now won three of his four subsequent outings.

3:45pm Handicap Chase
Danse Away won this for T J Nagle who was winning for the third time with this six year old son of Dansant. He had been second on his debut at Kilfeacle to the high class On The Blind Side. He runs in the colours of Mrs Ailish Glynn.

3:10 Listed Bumper
Envoi Allen is one of the most expensive point to pointers ever sold at public sale realising 400k at the Tattersalls Cheltenham February Sale. He had won a Ballinaboola maiden for Colin Bowe and Walter Connors under Barry O’Neill. Such was the impression he made that Tom Malone secured him for 400k for Cheveley Park stud and having won a bumper at the Fairyhouse Hattons Grace meeting he has now followed up in a Listed equivalent for trainer Gordon Elliott.

Southwelll

1:10 Maiden Hurdle
Umbrigado won well here for David Pipe and Tom Scudamore in the colours of joint owners John White and Anne Underhill. He had been second on his only points start for Aidan Fitzgerald in a two finisher Ballyarthur maiden in mid March. He was subsequently sold for 160,000 at the Cheltenham Festival Sale earlier this year and is still only a four year old.

2:30 Mares Maiden Hurdle
Monbeg Zena won here for Ollie Murphy in the Colours of Jared Sullivan having his first runner with the trainer. This mare had made a big impression in winning her maiden at Ballinaboola February 2017 but has been off the track since but showed no signs of ring rustiness to see off fellow pointer Executive Capilano. She was bought for 110k by Highflyer at the 2017 Tattersalls Cheltenham Festival Sale. Sean Doyle trained her to win her point to point start under Rob James.

Carlisle 2:25pm Handicap Hurdle
Isaacstown Lad won for Nicky Richards and Craig Nichol. He won a Lisronagh maiden for Virginia Considine back in 2012 and has since won five times on the track and has also been placed ten times.
