New Season | Changes to Novice Rider Races Eligibility

When the 2018/19 point-to-point season gets underway on the opening weekend of October, there will be one notable change affecting novice rider races.

Previously, riders who had not ridden more than ten winners, in either point-to-points, or in any form of rules racing, were permitted to ride in these races.

For the new campaign, the number of winners that a rider is permitted to have ridden in order to ride in these races, has been increased by five.

This will now bring the number to fifteen.

The move to bring slightly more experienced riders into the race, will allow some riders who may have been excluded from these races last season after riding more than 10 winners, back into the races this season, once they have not ridden more than fifteen winners.

The first novice rider’s race of the new season takes place at Castletown-Geoghegan on Sunday October 7th, and is an Open Lightweight.
