POINTERS ON TRACK

Irish Pointers Enjoy Scandinavian Success

Irish point-to-point graduates have enjoyed success in locations further afield to Ireland and the UK with the likes of Scorpiancer and Portrade in the US.

During the summer months ex-Irish pointer Moss Cloud flew the Irish flag across Scandinavia having won three races for his new connections while Daulys Anthem was placed at the rather unusual venue of St Moritz as well as Bold Bandit in Australia last month.

Two Irish pointers enjoyed further success for their new connections last weekend at Stromsholm in Sweden.

Harden, further added to his winning tally in Scandinavia on Saturday when he won the 2m2f hurdle on the card.

The Gold Well gelding who was bred by Jonathan Deacon, was fourth at Dromahane in a four-year-old maiden in April 2015 when under the care of Pat Doyle before moving to the Gordon Elliot yard.

The former Gigginstown House stud-owned gelding is from the family of Grade two winner Leinster and listed winner Jenny Come Quick and was bought for €35,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland August sale in 2014 by Margaret O’Toole.

The six-year-old ran six times on the track with his best run coming at Limerick in March when he finished third in a maiden hurdle.

Harden was back in the sales ring again in September when he was bought for £800 by Swedish trainer Sandra Brolin at the annual Goffs UK horses in training sale.

Less than a month after joining his new yard, Harden enjoyed his first success under rules when taking a €30,000 1m7f hurdle at Goteburg on the 01st October for his new handler.

Also scoring on the card was the former Batt O’Connell-trained Truckers Glory (pictured) in the 2m6f chase.

The eight-year-old ran in five Irish point-to-points during 2015 before moving to the Rebecca Curtis yard where he won a hurdle and a chase.

The son of Mahler was then sold at the Goffs UK May sale last year for £3,500 to his current trainer, Anders Herlin.

Just over two months after joining his new yard, Truckers Glory won a chase at Bad Harzburg before being placed on his next three starts last autumn.

Truckers Glory was on the scoreboard at Blommerod on the 07th April in a 2m2f chase for his new handler.

Sweden has five thoroughbred tracks with 750 thoroughbred races being held there every year. Sweden's two main tracks for thoroughbred racing are Täby Galopp, north of Stockholm which holds 50 meetings a year and Jägerso in Malmö which holds 25 fixtures a year.
