UK Point-to-Point Round Up - 07th February

The UK point-to-point action continued with a busy weekend of action with four meetings staged over the beginning of February.

The Cambridgeshire fixture at Horseheath hosted their first meeting of the new season on Sunday 04th February with four former Irish pointers in the winner’s enclosure.

SPOTLIGHT HORSE: Keel Over

The seven-year-old Keel Over (pictured) made a winning start on his UK point-to-point debut for his new handler, Michael Kehoe in the open maiden. The son of Gamut had been under the care of Cormac Doyle, with his most recent run being at Aghabullogue on the 07th January where he was second to Emerald Chieftain having also finished third at Mainstown in December.

Other winners on the day included the Terence O’Brien-trained Blue Mountain Boy, who was a dual winner last season at Inch and Dromahane in April, won in the hands of Gina Andrews in the Ladies open having been brought down at Higham the previous Saturday.

Also winning at Horseheath was Welsh’s Castle in the restricted race on what was the former Sean Doyle-trained runner’s first appearance of the season for David Kemp, as well as the former Patrick Moakley-trained Hazel Hill who was placed twice in 2014 and is now unbeaten in his ten UK point-to-point starts.

The second meeting of the year was held at Alnwick in Northumberland where the former Lisronagh runner-up, Sir Lonica secured his second UK point-to-point win in the restricted race for his Yorkshire-based handler Justin Landy. The son of Craigsteel ran out a comfortable 20 length winner in the hands of Joe Wright for his new owners, The Gold and Silver Club.

Milborne St Andrew staged its first meeting of the season also on Sunday 04th February.
