Irish point-to-point graduate Petit Mouchoir made a winning start to his career over the larger obstacles on the track when landing the Beginners Chase at Punchestown today.
Henry De Bromheads’ six-year-old, a two-time Grade 1 winner last season, claimed the Ryanair Hurdle at Leopardstown in December before following that success up with a one length win over Footpad in the Irish Champion hurdle a month later.
The son of Al Namix was last seen at the Cheltenham festival when he finished third to Buveur D’air in the Champion hurdle.
The Gigginstown House stud-owned gelding was back to winning ways today however on his seasonal re-appearance when running out the wide-margin winner of the 2 mile contest.
Sent off the 8/13 favourite, the grey gelding was always close to the pace, and easily asserted in the home straight to defeat Brelade by seven lengths in the hands of Davy Russell.
Petit Mouchoir had made a winning competitive debut when with Gordon Elliott to take a four-year-old maiden point-to-point at Kirkistown back in February 2015.
