The Turf Club Research Team are continuously trying to improve concussion management strategies in racing.
As part of the research they are calling all jockeys, retired jockeys and trainers to complete a short online questionnaire which will provide the research team with essential information.
Concussions can occur in horse racing and most people with a concussion recover quickly and fully. But for some people, symptoms can last for days, weeks, or longer which may have long-term implications.
It is important for everyone involved in horse racing to recognise the signs and symptoms of concussion and what to do if you or someone you know sustains one.
The aim of this research project is to identify the current knowledge, attitudes and perceptions of current jockeys, retired jockeys who still ride out and trainers towards concussion within horse racing.
This information will form the basis for future education programmes and targeted strategies to improve concussion management within the Irish Horse Racing System with a view to enhancing the health and wellbeing of jockeys.
The questionnaire contains six sections including;
1) Basic Information,
2) Past Personal History,
3) Concussion Knowledge,
4) Concussion Attitudes,
5) Return to Riding after Concussion,
6) Concussion Education.
It will take approximately 8 - 10 minutes to complete and can be accessed by clicking HERE.
